Jaya Varma Sinha takes charge as the first woman chairman in the 105-year history of the Railway Board

Jaya Varma Sinha, a graduate of Allahabad University, the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board, succeeding the retired CEO Anil Kumar Lahoti, following approval from the Union Cabinet Committee on Appointments. With a career spanning back to 1988 when she joined the Indian Railway Transport Department (IRDS), Jaya Varma has held pivotal positions in the Northern Railway, Eastern Railway, and South Eastern Railway, showcasing her extensive experience. Notably, she served as the Railway Board in Bangladesh for four years, during which the Maitri Express connecting Kolkata and Dhaka was inaugurated. Her tenure as Chief Administrative Officer of the Railway Board will extend until August 31st next year.
