Heavy Rains Prompt School Shutdowns in 6 Tamil Nadu Districts: District Collectors Take Swift Action

Due to the ongoing North East Monsoon in Tamil Nadu, heavy rain has affected most coastal districts in the north, as well as some interior and southern coastal areas. Six districts, including Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi, have declared a holiday for schools today as a precautionary measure, following orders from the respective District Collectors. The Central Arabian Sea has also witnessed the formation of a depression, expected to move westward and weaken over the same area. These weather conditions are contributing to light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in many places across Tamil Nadu. Specific areas, as mentioned, are expected to experience heavy rain at one or two locations. Due to heavy rain, Madurai, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni and Tirupur district schools have been declared holiday today (09.11.2023). Due to heavy rains, holidays have been announced for schools and colleges in Ooty, Coonoor, Kunta, Kotagiri districts today.
