Congress Leader Asks Supreme Court to Stop Centre from Appointing New ECs

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court to block the Centre from appointing new election commissioners under a disputed 2023 law. The vacancies resulted from the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel and the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey. Congress leader Jaya Thakur filed the plea, challenging the provisions of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service, and Terms of Office) Act, 2023.
