Supreme Court Grants Relief to DMK Leader Ponmudy in Assets Case

The Supreme Court has paused the conviction and three-year jail term of senior DMK leader K. Ponmudy and his wife in a disproportionate assets case. This decision comes after Ponmudy’s disqualification as a six-time MLA and former Tamil Nadu cabinet minister. Following his conviction by the Madras High Court on December 21st, 2023, and subsequent vacancy declaration of his constituency Thirukovilur, the Apex Court has intervened, suspending the sentence, allowing Ponmudy to appeal.
