India on Track to Become Exporter of Forged Railway Wheels, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister of Railways and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced in Chennai that India is transitioning from being an importer to an exporter of forged railway wheels after six to seven decades. Vaishnaw, during the inauguration of Qualcomm’s Chennai Design Centre, disclosed that construction has begun for a plant in Tamil Nadu to manufacture these wheels, as part of a joint venture with Ramakrishna Forgings Ltd. The facility, situated in Gummidipoondi near Chennai, represents an initial investment of ₹650 crore, signaling a significant shift in India’s railway industry.
