Supreme Court Notices SBI Over Non-Disclosure of Electoral Bond Numbers

The Supreme Court of India on Friday directed the State Bank of India (SBI) to disclose the unique alpha-numeric numbers of electoral bonds received by political parties, following an application by the Election Commission (EC). The five-judge Constitution bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, ordered the registrar (judicial) to digitize the data filed earlier by the EC in a sealed cover. During the hearing, senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Prashant Bhushan highlighted the non-disclosure of bond numbers by SBI. The court issued a notice to the bank and scheduled the next hearing for March 18th. The EC, in its application, stated that it had not retained copies of the documents submitted to the court and requested their return to comply with the court’s directives.
