Kanimozhi to Contest Again from Thoothukudi Lok Sabha Constituency

DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi is slated to contest for a second consecutive term from the Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency, as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin revealed the party’s list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In 2019, Kanimozhi secured victory over BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan with a significant margin of 3.47 lakh votes. Having served two terms as a Rajya Sabha member since 2007, she became the first female MP of Thoothukudi. Additionally, she assumed the role of the DMK’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, chaired the Parliament Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, and previously held positions as the party’s women’s wing secretary, now serving as its deputy general secretary.
