Karnataka Governor Sends ‘Temple Bill’ Back to Government, Seeks Clarification

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has sent back the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024, to the government for clarification. The bill, aiming to collect funds from temples earning over ₹10 lakh annually, faces uncertainty due to a pending Supreme Court case. The Governor questions the timing of amending the act while it’s under appeal, especially since the High Court has already struck it down. The bill was passed by both legislative houses on February 29th.
