Madras HC Grants State’s Request to Withdraw Appeal Against CM Stalin

The Madras High Court granted permission for the State to withdraw the appeal filed by the previous AIADMK government against Chief Minister MK Stalin over alleged irregularities in the new secretariat-assembly complex construction. Justices R Suresh Kumar and K Kumaresh Babu, in a division bench, approved the State’s withdrawal petition, closing the impleading petition filed by former AIADMK MP J Jayavardhan. The construction took place during the DMK regime, prompting an inquiry commission led by retired Justice Ragupathy, which was later dissolved following a challenge by the DMK in court. The evidence was then handed over to the DVAC for further investigation. The DMK government subsequently moved to withdraw appeal petitions filed by the AIADMK, while Jayavardhan filed a new petition urging the DVAC to probe his 2018 complaint against the DMK regarding alleged irregularities in the secretariat construction, also seeking inclusion in the main appeal.
