Tamil Nadu Fishermen Arrested by Sri Lankan Coast Guard Return to Chennai

Nineteen Tamil Nadu fishermen, hailing from Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, and Karaikal, returned to Chennai after being arrested by the Sri Lankan Coast Guard on March 6th while fishing in the sea. Their two boats were seized, and they were imprisoned for crossing the border. Following pleas from their families, the Indian embassy in Sri Lanka intervened, securing their release. Arriving on an Air India flight from Colombo on Wednesday night, the fishermen were welcomed at Chennai airport by fisheries department officials, who arranged transport to their respective villages.
