Cash Allegedly Distributed During Congress Candidate Manickam’s Campaign in Madurai Amidst Lok Sabha Election 2024

During an election campaign for Congress’s Virudhnagar Lok Sabha candidate, Manickam Tagore, currency notes were allegedly distributed to attendees, as seen in a video clip widely shared on social media platforms. Superintendent of Police BK Arvind confirmed the authenticity of the video from Madurai, where Tagore addressed party supporters and locals during another campaign event. Tagore praised the party’s ‘Nyay Patra’ manifesto during an election event, emphasizing its resonance with the people and asserting Tamil Nadu’s allegiance to Chief Minister MK Stalin while dismissing Prime Minister Modi’s influence in the state. He aims to secure all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, with voting for 39 seats set for the first phase on April 19th. In the 2019 elections, the DMK-led alliance, including Congress, clinched 38 seats, with DMK securing 23, Congress 8, and CPI 2. Voting for the 543 Lok Sabha seats will span seven phases, commencing on April 19th, with results announced on June 4th.
