SBI Refuses to Disclose Electoral Bond Details Under RTI Act Despite Supreme Court Order

The State Bank of India (SBI) refused to share details of electoral bonds with the Election Commission (EC) under the RTI Act, saying it’s personal information. Despite the bonds being public on the EC’s website, the SBI cited fiduciary responsibility. The Supreme Court ruled the bonds scheme unconstitutional on February 15th, directing the SBI to provide bond details by March 12th, to be published by the EC by March 13th. The SBI’s plea for an extension was denied on March 11th, upholding the disclosure deadline.
