Annual Fishing Ban Commences Along Eastern Coast of Tamil Nadu from April 15th

A seasonal fishing ban, effective from April 15th to June 14th on the East Coast, aims to conserve fishery resources. Enforced annually since 2001, the 61-day ban prohibits fishing by barges, which are anchored off the coast, while fishermen utilize country boats like Vallam, Katumaram, and piper boats along the coastal area. The ban is expected to lead to a scarcity of high-quality fish, potentially driving up prices during this two-month period.
