24 Rameswaram Fishermen Return from Sri Lankan Prison After Month-Long Detention

After being detained by the Sri Lankan Navy for over a month, 24 fishermen from Rameswaram returned home on Saturday, greeted by Fisheries Ministry officials at the Chennai airport. They were arrested on March 24th for allegedly fishing in Sri Lankan waters, had their boats seized, and were imprisoned. Prime Minister Stalin’s intervention led to talks between Indian and Sri Lankan officials, resulting in their release on April 4th. The Indian Embassy provided emergency documents and air tickets for their return. Arriving in Chennai on Friday, they were welcomed by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Department officials and escorted to their villages.
