AstraZeneca Acknowledges Rare Side Effect of Covishield Vaccine, Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Injuries

UK-based AstraZeneca has acknowledged that its Covid vaccine Covishield can lead to a rare side effect known as Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), which causes blood clots and low platelet count, according to court documents. The vaccine, developed jointly by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and produced by Serum Institute of India, is facing a class action lawsuit in the UK over claims of causing deaths and severe injuries. A total of 51 victims have moved the UK High Court seeking damages of up to 100 million pounds (₹1,047 crore). AstraZeneca’s admission in the court documents contradicts its previous claim that TTS is not caused by the vaccine at a generic level.
