Patanjali Faces License Suspension for 14 Products; Ramdev and Balkrishna to Appear in Court

The Uttarakhand licensing authority suspended licenses for 14 Patanjali products immediately, following an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court regarding a misleading advertisements case. These banned products, manufactured by Patanjali’s Divya Pharmacy, include Drishti Eye drop, Swasari Gold, Swasari Vati, Bronchom, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avaleh, Mukta Vati Extra Power, Lipidom, Bp Grit, Madhugrit, Madhunashini Vati Extra Power, Livamrit Advance, Livogrit, and Eyegrit Gold. Meanwhile, Yoga guru Ramdev and his associate Acharya Balkrishna are set to appear in court on April 30th for issuing an apology following a Supreme Court hearing on April 23rd, where Patanjali was criticized for not adequately displaying their apology in newspapers. The larger apology was published after the court’s rebuke, prompting Ramdev and Balkrishna to tender an “unconditional and unqualified apology” over exaggerated product claims like Coronil during the pandemic. Additionally, in November 2023, the Supreme Court directed Patanjali to cease advertisements of products claiming to treat specific ailments and disorders, as per the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, in response to a plea filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over Ramdev’s criticisms of modern medicine.
