Government Lifts Onion Export Ban, Imposes Minimum Export Price Amid Political Sensitivity

The government lifted the ban on onion exports on Saturday but imposed a minimum export price (MEP) of USD 550 per tonne, citing the commodity’s political sensitivity amid ongoing general elections. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) announced the decision, stating that onion exports are now permitted subject to the specified MEP until further notice.
