Allahabad High Court Upholds Criminal Case Against Samajwadi Party MLA Rafiq Ansari for Non-Appearance in 1995 Case

The Allahabad High Court has declined to set aside the criminal proceedings against Samajwadi Party MLA Rafiq Ansari from Meerut in a 1995 case, citing his repeated failure to appear before the trial court despite nearly 100 non-bailable warrants issued between 1997 and 2015. Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh, dismissing Ansari’s application, cautioned against allowing a sitting MLA to evade legal accountability, emphasizing the risk of perpetuating a culture of impunity and disrespect for the rule of law.
