Tamil Nadu Reverses Ban on ‘Dangerous’ Dog Breeds After Court Order

The Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry Department swiftly revoked its ban on the import, breeding, and sales of 23 dog breeds deemed ‘dangerous’ just hours after its issuance on Thursday, spurred by recent dog bite incidents, notably the Rottweiler attack on a five-year-old girl in Chennai on May 5th. The reversal, which occurred late in the evening, followed a court order against a similar notification by the central government. In March, the central government had proposed banning several dog breeds, including Rottweilers, Pitbulls, and American Bulldogs, citing safety concerns. The list of banned breeds encompasses various breeds, such as Pitbull Terrier, Tosa Inu, American Staffordshire Terrier, and others, commonly known as Ban Dogs.
