Popular YouTuber Savukku Shankar has been remanded in judicial custody until May 24 following a complaint by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), accusing him of forging documents related to a new bus terminus construction in Kilambakkam near Chennai. The Chennai police’s cybercrime wing also filed multiple cases against Shankar, including forgery, cheating, and making derogatory statements against women police personnel. Veeralakshmi, founder of Thamizhaga Munnetra Padai, lodged a complaint about derogatory remarks made by Shankar, and another case stems from a complaint filed by a woman journalist six years ago. Shankar, brought from Coimbatore central prison, alleged torture by prison authorities, prompting a Coimbatore judicial magistrate to direct the state government to provide medical assistance to him.
