Savukku Shankar Faces Legal Trouble Across Tamil Nadu After Derogatory Remarks

YouTuber Savukku Shankar’s derogatory comments about women in the Tamil Nadu police sparked multiple legal actions, including alleged drug possession. He was detained under the Goondas Act by the Greater Chennai Police after three cases were filed against him. One initial case, initiated by Coimbatore city police, stemmed from a complaint by sub-inspector S Suganya after discovering offensive content on the Red Pix 24×7 YouTube channel. Shankar faced charges under various sections of the IPC, including uttering obscenity and insulting the modesty of a woman. He was arrested in Theni by Coimbatore police but faced additional charges as Theni police found ganja in his vehicle, leading to an NDPS Act case. The cybercrime wing of the Greater Chennai City Police also filed two cases against him, one based on a journalist’s six-year-old complaint and another for recent allegations of slandering women police personnel. Other cases include one by Veeralakshmi against Shankar and another YouTuber and another by Chennai police for alleged document fabrication related to Kilambakkam bus terminus. Additionally, Tiruchy police booked Shankar and another YouTuber, Felix, based on a DSP’s complaint, leading to Felix’s arrest in New Delhi. The Madras High Court, dismissing Felix’s anticipatory bail plea, stressed the urgency of addressing problematic content on YouTube channels.
