Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a series of rallies in Maharashtra ahead of the fifth phase of voting, emphasized his determination to expose what he termed the Congress’ “appeasement” strategy and the opposition’s attempt to sow division along religious lines. Modi criticized the Congress for advocating a 15 percent budget allocation for minorities and vowed to prevent religious-based division of the budget, as well as reservations in jobs and education. He also targeted the Shiv Sena (UBT), branding it a “duplicate” Shiv Sena for allegedly aligning with the Congress. Modi challenged the Congress to have Rahul Gandhi speak in favor of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. He criticized the Congress for various issues, including its alleged support for Pakistan and its approach to minority rights. Modi warned against religious-based budget division, citing Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s stance against it, and pledged to safeguard the reservation rights of marginalized communities. He also criticized the merger of small parties with the Congress and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the rights of deprived sections of society.
