Chennai’s Metro Rail Phase II Construction Triggers Safety Concerns and Pedestrian Disruptions on Perambur Barracks Road

The ongoing construction of Metro Rail Phase II’s corridor 3 along Perambur Barracks Road in Chennai has led to severe vehicular congestion, posing risks for both drivers and pedestrians due to the narrow two-way road and poor road conditions exacerbated by uneven surfaces and potholes, particularly hazardous during heavy rainfall. Pedestrians are facing challenges as both sides of the road have been occupied for construction, leaving only a narrow strip for vehicles, hindering their movement. Residents emphasize these concerns, with the project involving the construction of four underground stations, for which TATA Projects Limited has been contracted by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited.
