Supreme Court Sets July 10th for Bail Hearing of DMK Leader V. Senthil Balaji in Money Laundering Case

The Supreme Court scheduled July 10th for the bail plea hearing of DMK leader V. Senthil Balaji, arrested last year in connection with a money laundering case involving an alleged cash-for-jobs scam. The hearing was deferred as Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Enforcement Directorate (ED), was engaged in another case. Balaji has been in custody since June last year, with the court previously declining to stay the Madras High Court’s February 28th order dismissing his bail plea. The High Court urged the trial court to complete proceedings within three months, noting Balaji’s continued influence despite resigning as a minister. He remains in judicial custody since his arrest by the ED in June last year. Last November, the Supreme Court rejected Balaji’s bail plea on medical grounds, stating his condition could be treated with medication.
