Iranian President’s Helicopter Crashes in Mountains, Official Confirms

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi experienced a hard landing while traveling in a helicopter in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, near Jolfa city bordering Azerbaijan, as reported by Iranian state television. The whereabouts of the incident remain unknown, with one of the helicopters in the convoy making a “rough” landing, according to Iran’s interior minister Ahmed Vahidi. Rescuers are facing challenges due to difficult weather conditions as they attempt to reach the crash site. Raisi had been in Azerbaijan to inaugurate a dam with President Ilham Aliyev earlier in the day. Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was also onboard, and it’s unclear if there were any injuries. The Iraqi government has offered assistance in the search efforts following the crash.
