Cordon-and-Search Operation Conducted in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor District Ahead of Election Counting

A cordon-and-search operation was conducted across sub-divisions of Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district on Sunday, May 26th, ahead of the general election counting in the state. Implemented to maintain law and order and curb illegal activities, the operation led to the confiscation of vehicles and illicit alcohol. Despite controversy surrounding its human rights implications, the exercise aims to prevent untoward incidents during the upcoming election counting on June 4th, with strict measures in place against hate speech and instigation of confrontations, as directed by Chittoor Superintendent of Police Manikantha Chandolu.
