Supreme Court Defers Bail Hearing for DMK Leader V. Senthil Balaji in Money Laundering Case

The Supreme Court deferred the hearing on the bail plea of DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Minister V. Senthil Balaji, arrested in a money laundering case linked to an alleged cash-for-jobs scam, until July 12th. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta representing the Enforcement Directorate requested the postponement, opposed by senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi on Balaji’s behalf, citing repeated adjournments. The court had earlier sought ED’s response within four weeks while declining interim relief on the Madras High Court’s dismissal of Balaji’s bail plea, instructing the trial court to expedite proceedings within three months. Balaji has been in judicial custody since June last year.
