Seizure of CS Chemicals Bound for Pakistan Raises Security Concerns in India

Indian authorities seized a consignment of 2,560kg of Ortho-Chlorobenzylidene Malononitrile (CS gas) shipped from China to a defence supplier in Pakistan via Chennai’s Kattupalli Port. The chemicals, intended for domestic riot control, were intercepted under the Customs Act and Wassenaar Arrangement regulations. This incident underscores fears of chemical weaponry proliferation and potential threats to Indian security, particularly along the Pakistan border, amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
