Officers from the Air Intelligence Unit at Tiruchirappalli airport intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai and seized 977 grams of 24-carat gold valued at ₹70.58 lakh, concealed in three packets of paste-like material found in the passenger’s rectum. The individual, traveling on Air India Express from Dubai to Trichy, was arrested, with investigations ongoing. In a separate incident in March, officials at the same airport seized 410 grams of gold worth ₹26.62 lakh from a passenger arriving from Singapore, including 330 grams of 24-carat gold extracted from paste-like material and 80 grams of 22-carat gold concealed in the passenger’s vest.
